Coaches
At Barn Owls Volleyball Club, we take tremendous pride in the exceptional coaching staff we have assembled. Each of our coaches boasts an impressive background as former high-level competitors, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. With their guidance and mentorship, our athletes have the opportunity to elevate their game and pursue a future in volleyball at the post-secondary level.
Our coaching team is comprised of individuals who have dedicated their lives to the sport and understand the unique challenges and demands faced by aspiring student-athletes. They have walked the very path our athletes strive to traverse, gaining invaluable experience along the way. Their firsthand understanding of the game, combined with a deep passion for teaching and nurturing talent, sets them apart from the rest.
Jason Friesen
Jason was a setter at Douglas College, winning back-to-back provincial BCAA titles. After his playing days, Jason coached various boys and girls teams at the club, provincial and BC Games levels. Most recently Jason was the Head Coach of the Barn Owls Boys 15U and 16U teams.
Adrian Gerber
Adrian grew up playing volleyball in Victoria. He competed at the summer games and provincial team level as well as at high school (Lambrick Park) and University (UVic). As both a teacher and on staff with Young Life, he has coached boys volleyball for many different schools and clubs over the past 20 years in the Kootenays and Okanagan. For the past 7 years his focus has been on developing young athletes who are new to the sport of volleyball.
Norm Hanson
Kyle Joslin
Kyle was a setter for the College of the Rockies and the University of Manitoba before playing professionally in Switzerland. He is a former assistant coach for the UBCO Men’s Volleyball Team, and since becoming a full time ‘Chip Guy’, he has helped coach KSS and the Barn Owls at the 15U and 16U level. He also has the best hair in Kelowna.
Brian Kroschinsky
Coach Brian is a proud graduate of George Elliot Senior Secondary where, under legendary coach Doug Meraw’s leadership, the Dominoes were two time provincial bronze medallists. Brian went on to play four years at the University of Alberta aiding the Golden Bears to two podium finishes. In recent years (relatively speaking) he has assisted with three of the medalling KSS Senior Boys teams, but he is obviously most proud of coaching the 2023 Barn Owls Boys 13U and 14U teams to provincial gold medals.
Conrad Leinemann
Born and raised in Kelowna (KLO Grad), Conrad has dedicated his life to volleyball first as an athlete, now as a coach. A proud UBC Thunderbird alumnus, Conrad’s university success launched a career that took him to France to play professionally and then onto the world stage representing Canada in beach volleyball.
For 12 years, Conrad competed on the FIVB World Tour, highlighted by representing Canada at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. His career is marked by a strong work ethic, passion, and perseverance, earning him induction into the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame, the BC Volleyball Hall of Fame, and the Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame.
When he’s not on the court, Conrad works alongside his wife, Jane Roos, the Founder of CAN Fund, helping thousands of Canadian athletes wear the Maple Leaf and pursue their dreams.
Darryl McCrady
John McParland
John played collegiate volleyball at Langara College and at the university level for UBC Vancouver. John is a teacher in the Central Okanagan School District where he has been coaching for over 20 years. He is currently coaching the KSS Junior Boys after the past 20 seasons at the senior boys level. John has completed a Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration. John still competes today, touching a high 8’9’' on his spike touch.
Craig O’Dell
Craig has been coaching volleyball since 2012, working with Pacific Christian School, Langley Christian School, Lions Gate Christian Academy, and most recently, Kelowna Secondary School. He has led U15-U17 club teams to multiple Provincial and National medal(s) and holds a Degree in Sport Management. An NCCP-certified coach, Craig has also collaborated with multiple Provincial Sport Organizations to develop strength and conditioning programs that support athletes across a variety of sports.
Chris Siebring
Michael Sodaro
Mike played 3 years of volleyball in Kelowna at OUC where his team won a Bronze medal at Nationals. He has been coaching in Kelowna for over 20 years, and has been involved with a variety of age groups ranging from 11 to 18 years. Presently, Mike is the head coach of the 3-time AAA Provincial Championship Senior Boys KSS Owls. As the President of the Barn Owls Volleyball Club, Mike oversees the excellent team of coaches at our volleyball club.
Rob Steciuk
Rob holds a Master of Leadership degree from Gonzaga University and a Bachelor of Education from UBCO. He is certified with the NCCP Level 3 Theory of Coaching and has completed advanced development coursework in indoor volleyball. His professional background includes experience as a Physical Health and Education teacher in Calgary and the Okanagan, as well as serving as an Athletic Director. Rob is also a multi-sport post-secondary athlete. In volleyball, he has coached various age groups at the club level, including U15, U16, and U17/18 teams, achieving multiple top-5 finishes at Provincial and National championships. At the high school level with OKM, Rob coached junior girls for four years, all earning BC Championship berths, and senior girls for seven years, with every team qualifying for BC Championships and consistently placing in the top seven. His teams won the 4A BC Championships in 2022 and 2024. He has previously coached with clubs such as T2, Jr Heat, and KVC.
Trevor Taylor
Trevor has been working with kids for all his career as a PE teacher. He has coached volleyball since he started back in 2003. He continues to work on developing his skills as a coach and inspiring players to become part of the Okanagan volleyball community. Some of his coaching accomplishments include a silver medals for his daughter’s U14 and U15 club provincial championships. He also has helped guide our U13 and U14 Barn Owl Boys to two gold medals.
Tammy Tse
Tammy brings a dynamic mix of high-level playing experience, coaching expertise, and a holistic approach to every team she leads. A former Junior MVP All-Star from Alberta who trained with the University of Alberta Pandas, she now shares her passion for the game in the Okanagan as Head Coach of the OKM Junior A Girls team and in her third season coaching boys’ club volleyball.
Known for her positive energy, technical insight, and genuine connection with players, Tammy focuses on developing well-rounded athletes. Her coaching philosophy goes beyond the court—building confidence, resilience, and character that empower young athletes to grow as both players and people.
Mitch Walker
Mitch grew up in Prince George, B.C. and played collegiate volleyball at the University College of the Cariboo. He holds a Masters Degree in Criminology and has worked in criminal and social justice initiatives over the last two decades. He has been coaching volleyball since 2004, in Victoria, Prince George, and Kelowna and is currently coaching at Okanagan Mission Secondary.
